North Ferriby 6-0 Harrogate Railway Athletic

It was a night when chances created turned into a flurry of goals as North Ferriby hit Harrogate Railway for six in a tremendous display. Tom Corner weighed in with a hat-trick in what was a superb performance by the Villagers.

The home side went into the evening looking to make it three successive victories and they certainly did that. In fact, it took Danny East just 25 seconds to see the net ripple when he jumped on a poor back pass to poke the ball past a despairing Joe Wilton

It didn’t take the Villagers long to double their lead when Josh Dennett’s long throw was met by the head of Niall Tilsley whose header was smartly tipped over the bar by Wilton. From the resulting corner, Levi Tarbotton headed the ball goalward leaving Danny Buttle to tap the ball home. The Villagers continued to assert their dominance and it was Joel Shortland who had the next attempt. The chance came about after more good work by the Ferriby attackers and the midfielder’s shot went over the bar. More good build-up from the Villagers led to the next opportunity. Good play by Danny East saw a cross from the forward go into the box and was met by Danny Buttle. However, the winger’s header went wide of the post.

The Villagers were reminded of the threat posed by the visitors on a couple of occasions in the first half. These chances mainly came on the break and utilised the pace of the forwards. Fatlum Ibrahimi was put through but saw his effort go wide of the post and out for a goal kick. The Villagers made it three soon after when good play from Josh Dennett and Danny East on the right led to East crossing the ball into the box. It was met by the stooping figure of Corner to head the low ball past Wilton for 3-0 at half-time.

The second half picked up where the first half left off as East’s powerful effort from an angle hit the bar and bounce back into the field of play. Harrogate had an effort in the opening five minutes of the half but they put the effort wide of the goal. Tom Corner then added a fourth when a Danny Emerton corner was met again by Levi Tarbotton as the defender headed the ball across the face of goal and found Tom Corner. The striker headed the ball and despite the efforts of the Harrogate defenders, they could not keep it out.

Corner topped off a great week for himself on the pitch when he added Ferriby’s fifth and completed his hat-trick. Josh Dennett caused even more problems with a long throw and Corner outjumped everyone to power a header into the net. East continued to trouble the Harrogate defence and put a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Buttle was at the back post but he was unable to get a touch on the ball and the defence quickly cleared the ball.

The night certainly belonged to the Villagers and on an evening in which everything clicked, substitute Jamie Forrester made it 6-0 in stoppage time. Great work from Dennett on the right-hand side he played the ball across to Forrester who placed the ball beautifully into the bottom corner.
