Glasshougton Welfare 1-2 North Ferriby

Looking to maintain their current run of league wins the Villagers travelled to Glasshoughton with the intention of making it eight wins in a row. Although they were able to come out with a 2-1 victory, they required a late rally in the last twenty minutes to secure the three points.

It was the Villagers who had the ball in the back of the net first but an effort from Levi Tarbotton was ruled out for offside. The game’s first goal came on the tenth minute as a pass from the aforementioned Tarbotton was intercepted by a Glasshoughton player. This led to the home side breaking down the left-hand side. A cross came into the box and was missed by all. It fell to Glasshoughton forward Dylan Drovi who finished well to put the ball beyond Ferriby keeper Jordan Douglas.

The hosts also had the best chances of the early periods of the second half as they hit the post twice in a five-second period to give the Villagers a scare. Danny East had a couple of chances for the Villagers, firstly heading wide before seeing a shot of his deflected wide.

It was on the 79th minute that the Villagers levelled the scores. It was a 30-yard effort that was struck by substitute Jason Mycoe that flew past Sam Riches in the Glasshouhgton goal. The defender was given the ball from a throw-in taken by Ben Leyland before firing his equalising shot.

Five minutes from time and it was 2-1 to the Villagers. A scramble in the box in which neither side could get a hold of the ball eventually fell to Ferriby attacker Tom Corner who rifled the ball into the net after Sam Riches punched the ball to try and keep the scores level.

Chris Bolder added his thoughts on the afternoon’s game talking about his sides victory by stating, “In the manner in it we did it after the performance in the first half was really pleasing, we continue our unbeaten start, our winning run and we know we have some big games coming up but as we’ve seen today, they are all tough”.

Bolder further added that, “We weren’t at our usual levels in the first half. Despite that we had multiple opportunities where we put the ball in box, but we concede by our poor play by giving the ball away”.
