Weekend Review: 4th October 2021

It was an exciting weekend with some late winners for some of our local sides, including in the top of the table clash for Beverley Town. Away from the field of play Hull FC also have been doing some business this weekend.

Beverley Town left it until the final minute to beat Westella and Willerby on Saturday afternoon. It was a clash at the top of the Humber Premier League with both sides unbeaten so far this season. It took a Will Waudby injury-time penalty to separate the two sides. Mike Thompson, Beverley Town manager spoke to the team on the Three O’Clock Kick-Off following the 1-0 win.

Hull City finally got their second victory of the season. Going into the game the Tigers had not registered a win since the opening day. A change of tactics from Grant McCann saw not only a victory but a clean sheet too. An element of fortune was needed for the first goal but the second was deserved. Our Hull City reporter Mike Try gave his post-match verdict on Hull City 2-0 Middlesbrough.

For the second time in less than a month, Hall Road Rangers faced Rossington Main. The last time the two teams met it ended with a Rossington 5-1 victory. The signs were not good for Rangers as they were two behind in the opening ten minutes. Tom Bennett pegged a goal back early second half but as Hall Road looked for an equaliser the visitors scored the goal which sealed the game. Oliver Harsley has the full report: Hall Road Rangers 1-3 Rossington Main.

North Ferriby left it late to gain victory away at Glasshoughton Welfare. The Villagers conceded early and it took a full 70 minutes before the waves of attack finally gained an equaliser. Mycoe the substitute was the man with the goal. The winner came only minutes later through Corner. North Ferriby have kindly provided a report of Glasshoughton Welfare 1-2 North Ferriby.

Hull City Ladies suffered a heavy defeat on Sunday afternoon. The Tigress’ remain winless this season. It was a bad start as Sheffield FC scored in the opening moments from a high cross. Thompson hit the bar as City tried to get back into the game. Three quickfire second-half goals ended the contest. Sheffield FC 4-0 Hull City Ladies

Beverley RUFC lost to a weather-affected fixture away at West Leeds. The Beavers struggled to get a rhythm going throughout the entire 80 minutes. Leeds ran out deserved winners. A full report has been provided by Beverley RUFC: West Leeds 23-10 Beverley RUFC. Chairman Brian Gilbert spoke to the sports team following the defeat.

Hull FC have made a new signing ahead of the 2022 season. The Fijian international hooker Joe Lovodua has signed on an initial one-year deal from NRL grand finalists South Sydney Rabbitohs. FC have also secured the services of Andre Savelio for a further two seasons. The second-rower has been a fans favourite since joining the Black and Whites. Two already impressive years has seen him score 11 tries in 38 games and earn a call up to the Combined Nations All-Stars team which beat England back in June.
