West Bromwich Albion 5-2 Hull City

Hull City suffered their first league defeat of the season with a 5-2 loss against West Bromwich Albion.

An own goal from Callum Elder and second-half finishes from John Swift, Darnell Furlong, Karlan Grant and Dara O’Shea saw the hosts secure all three points, with Óscar Estupiñán netting a brace for the Tigers.

Shota Arveladze made only one change to his starting XI to the one that faced Burnley last time out. Randell Williams came in for the injured Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, while new summer signing Ryan Woods was named on the bench.

Ozan Tufan had the first opportunity of the game as his volley tested David Button in the West Brom goal. At the other end, Conor Townsend’s cross almost picked out the run of forward Grant.

From a Baggies’ corner, the Tigers broke on the counterattack as Estupiñán, Tufan and Elder all linked up, with the latter seeing his powerful drive parried by Button. Grady Diangana went close for the hosts as he met Furlong’s delivery at the back post, but his effort went wide of the mark.

Shortly after being booked, Estupiñán was brilliantly played through on goal by Woods. The forward’s first-time effort was pushed well onto the crossbar by Button before the West Brom goalkeeper gathered the loose ball.

Minutes later and the hosts took the lead. A cross from the right flank by Jed Wallace caused trouble in the Tigers’ penalty area, with the decisive touch coming off Elder as the ball found the back of the net.
