Beverley could be branching out by making formal twinning arrangements  with a third town in Europe. A survey asking for the public’s views on twinning with Fucecchio in Italy is currently on the town council’s website. Beverley is already twinned with Lemgo in Germany and Nogent-sur-Oise in France.

Fucecchio is a small town in Tuscany, about 45km from Florence and 38 from Pisa, and, like Beverley, is steeped in local history, with the two towns sharing a joint history of leather work – Fucecchio being known for its industry in the material and Beverley once being home to a thriving tannery trade.

The Italian town is already twinned with Beverley’s French twin and Mayor Linda Johnson told Beverley FM: “We are asking residents who are interested in linking with Fucecchio to complete a short online survey, so we can connect them up with members of the Beverley Nogent Twinning Association, who are also eager for stronger ties to be made with our Italian friends.”
