Beverley angler Harry Bignell landed the £50,000 first prize in what’s known as the “F A Cup of fishing”. The 30-year-old commercial vehicle salesman was competing in the final of Fish “O” Mania, held at Hayfield Lakes, Doncaster, and screened live on Sky Sports. Harry was in the final for the first time, competing against 23 of the country’s top anglers, including double defending champion Andy Bennett. His catch of 85.2 kilograms during the four-hour match was 63 kilograms more than the second-placed angler. After collecting his prize Harry promised to spend some money on his daughter but said he would probably save the rest.

Humberside Police say the first weekend following the lifting of covid restrictions passed without serious incident. Detective Chief Superintendent Phill Ward told Beverley FM: “We had additional officers out and about patrolling key areas throughout the weekend and I am pleased to report that the majority of the public enjoyed the lifting of restrictions and the facilities in a safe and responsible way.” And he revealed additional officers and resources will continue to deployed.

And finally, parents and carers looking for fun and active ways of keeping their children entertained during the summer holidays should look no further than the Active East Riding #SchoolsOut website. This year’s School’s Out programme has just been finalised and can be found online at www.activeeastriding.co.uk.
