Beverley Town Council has agreed to pay £17,000 to settle an outstanding gas bill. It had emerged last November that because of an oversight the council had been using but not paying for gas at its Well Lane offices, stretching back to 2004. The anomaly was only discovered when a gas boiler broke down.

The council launched an immediate inquiry over the affair and subsequently revealed it had set aside £35,000 to settle any claim. It’s now emerged that after discussions with Northern Gas Networks and the signing of a new supply contract, settlement has been reached in the sum of £17,000.

The East Yorkshire Local Food Network has launched the 20th anniversary edition of its food and drink guide, which spotlights local restaurants, pubs, cafes and tea-rooms and suppliers of quality produce. The guide also contains information on activities and events taking place across East Yorkshire throughout the year – including festivals, food and drink experiences, wildlife watching, heritage and culture, walking and cycling.

It’s available from Tourist Information Centres, Customer Service Centres, leisure centres and libraries and can be viewed online at https://eryc.link/localfoodanddrinksguide

And finally, Beverley bar The Firepit at Flemingate has been named as a county winner in this year’s National Pub & Bar Awards. It’s one of five in the Yorkshire and Humber region, and 94 nationally, shortlisted ahead of the finals in June, when regional winners and the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year will be announced.
