BEVERLEY Racecourse says no problems are anticipated ahead of today’s race meeting on The Westwood following the mid-card abandonment of Wednesday’s meeting due to safety issues, Today’s Very British Raceday, with racing from 1.30pm, is regarded as one of Beverley’s biggest days of the season, with the two feature races regarded as trials for Royal Ascot.

Marketing and partnerships manager Joe Pollak told Beverley FM work had taken place at the bottom bend of the course, which had been the subject of concern for a number of jockeys on Wednesday, who reported horses had slipped. Champion-chasing jockey William Buick will ride Absolutely Flawless, one of the favourites in the £40,000 Hilary Needler Trophy.

FREE half-term lunches for families feeling the pinch are being provided every day from today until Sunday June 5 at the Masonic Hall in Trinity Lane, Beverley. A spokesperson for the Freemasons told us: “Everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment with increasing prices, and there is no reason to go without this half-term. The bar will not be open but free tea, coffee and juice will be available, along with a hot meal, and a dessert for anyone who is feeling the squeeze.” The offer runs from 12 noon until 2pm each day.

TO CELEBRATE the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Molescroft Parish Council is hosting an afternoon tea at Molescroft Pavilion a week tomorrow, Sunday June 5, from 2 – 5pm. Spaces are free but limited and can be reserved by contacting 07960 721691 or clerk@molescroft-pc.gov.uk
