Covid-19 infection rates appear to be falling in East Yorkshire but are still high at just over 366 cases per 100,000 people. There were more than 1000 new cases in the last week, but it’s down 500 on the previous 7 days, with an R rate between 0.9 and 1.1. Fatalities are also down slightly but the death toll in local hospitals since the pandemic started last year has sadly exceeded 920 people. 9 out of 10 residents have had their first vaccine jab with just over 8 out of 10 having had both. The team at the zoo at Sewerby Hall and Gardens have welcomed a new arrival – with the birth of a female Llama. Officials told Beverley FM that both the baby and her mum Gladys are doing well. Brother Vernon is also said to be as pleased as punch. Both Gladys and Vernon were named after Elvis Presley’s parents when they arrived earlier this year. There’s no word yet on a name for the new baby Llama. Zookeeper John Pickering said it was fantastic news. Full details of the zoo at Sewerby Hall and Gardens here
