PR: Hall Road vs Retford

Hall Road Rangers face play-off contenders Retford FC on Saturday as they welcome them to Haworth Park. Managed by Chris Woodhead, Retford have won six of their last 11 league games including victories against North Ferriby FC and Brigg Town. The Choughs sit just outside the play-off places and are seven points adrift of 5th placed Rossington Main. They’ll be looking to keep up the pace with the sides above them heading into the final few games of the season.

Meanwhile, Rangers are searching for the perfect response after their 5-1 defeat at Dronfield Town in midweek. If they earn all three points this weekend, they’d keep themselves sitting in the upper mid-table. Hall Road are also looking to complete a league double over the Choughs. The reverse fixture took place in October when Rangers won 1-4 at the Rail Ground.

Retford have the 7th best attack in the league with a total of 70 goals scored. The Choughs’ main goal threat is Adam Scott as he has a total of 13 league goals. Alex Wonham is another danger having got 11 goals in all competitions. The Choughs also have the joint 7th best defence having conceded 57 goals thus far. They’ve fared quite well on their travels this campaign with seven wins picked up from 14 away games.

Hall Road joint-manager Leon Sewell is looking for a positive response from his players.

“Midweek away to Dronfield Town was somewhat of a shambolic performance. Fair play to Dronfield though as they outworked us and took their chances when they came.

The meeting with Retford on Saturday is an important opportunity for us to bounce back and put the performance on Tuesday night to bed. Retford are pushing for the playoffs and will be in a rich vein of form after beating Brigg Town and also having their midweek derby vs Ollerton Town.

This game is one of our few remaining home games and it’s important that we get back to winning ways, avoid the end of season lull and give our full commitment to the club” Sewell said.
