North Ferriby 4-0 Rossington Main

North Ferriby Fc defeated playoff-chasing Rossington main 4-0 at the Dransfield stadium. It was a great reaction from Chris Bolder’s side after the disappointing defeat to Hallam at the weekend. Bolder named an unchanged eleven for the game. Harvey Carew and Rinalds Jurkstis came into the side, replacing Danny Buttle and Jamie Forrester on the substitute bench.

The Villagers got off to a flying start and were awarded a free-kick after five minutes for a handball. Josh Whiteley took the free-kick and placed his effort past goalkeeper Kian Johnson.

It would soon be 2-0 as Ferriby continued to assert their dominance. A corner taken by Danny Emerton was not dealt with by the visitors and Oli Donald headed goalwards. His header was blocked and fell to Louis Kirk. The Ferriby midfielder turned and hit a shot past Johnson to double his side’s lead.

Ferriby continued to be on top and Tom Corner came close to making it three. A brilliant delivery from Danny East found the Ferriby striker but his header from close range was saved by Johnson.

The football that Chris Bolder’s side was causing Rossington a lot of trouble. Corner came close again, when a free kick delivered by Danny Emerton found him but he headed his effort wide of the goal.

Corner would be rewarded for his tireless performance when he pressed Rossington defender Greg Young, whose pass was under-hit, and raced onto the ball. Corner went round the outrushing Johnson and, from an angle put his shot in the back of the goal. Corner was in the action again and beat the experienced Young for pace. This time, his effort was saved by Johnson and then cleared by the Rossington defence.

The second half picked up where the first half left off. Ferriby continued to dominate and on the 52nd minute, they made it four. A brilliant cross from the impressive Robbie Start found Josh Whiteley who sent the ball home from close range, to score his second of the match. The Villagers didn’t ease off and continued to attack their opponents. Captain Niall Tilsley went close when he headed just wide from a corner. The returning Harvey Carew went close when he unleashed a shot from just outside the area which crashed back off the crossbar. This chance came after some lovely free-flowing football and a mesmerising flick by Man of the Match Louis Kirk. Kirk was involved again soon after. The relentless midfielder played a superb ball over to the right-hand side and found Josh Dennett. The Ferriby defender raced onto the ball and found space. He continued his run into the box, but his shot was well saved by Johnson.

North Ferriby boss Chris Bolder gave his thoughts after the game, “Great performance, I said to the lads they worked exceptionally hard. We shaded it in terms of how hard we worked when we were in possession. We spoke to the players and questioned a few things about Saturday and tonight we asked the players to be brave in possession and give options for the man in possession and I think tonight epitomised everything about us. We tweaked our system, slightly and changed a few people’s roles within the team. The set-up allowed us to press as a unit and set up some traps”.
