North Ferriby 3-2 Glasshoughton
North Ferriby FC overcame a resolute Glasshoughton side with a 3-2 victory. Two goals from Danny East either side of a Tom Corner goal ensured the Villagers wrapped up the three points in an exciting game of football.
The Villagers named an unchanged starting eleven for only the second time this season. Adam Bolder and Jamie Forrester retained their positions in the middle of the park despite the return of Louis Kirk from suspension.
The game’s opening goal came courtesy of Glasshoughton. The visitors attacked the hosts, and the ball came to Kyle Fish on the corner of the 18-yard box. Fish angled an effort and it evaded everyone and beat Jordan Douglas to nestle in the bottom of the Ferriby goal.
Ferriby needed a response and found it not long after. A brilliant ball from Robbie Start found his partner on the left-hand side, Josh Whiteley. Whiteley, who was playing against his former side, zipped a low ball across the box and there was Danny East to put the ball home and pull Ferriby level.
The Villagers went in search of a goal to put their noses in front and had chances to do so. Adam Bolder’s low effort went just wide after some good build-up play. Jamie Forrester found space at the edge of the area and his strike was low and troubled Glasshoughton keeper Hayes-Daubney who had two attempts to gather the ball safely. Forrester was involved again as his shot was deflected and hit the top of the bar.
Josh Whiteley had the first chance of the second half, but he saw his shot go over the bar.
Ferriby would find a second goal through Tom Corner. Jamie Forrester was again afforded time at the edge of the area and his powerful shot was too much for Hayes-Daubney to handle and Corner was there to put the ball into the goal to give the Villagers a lead.
The visitors would pull level through their top goalscorer Lewis Stephens. A well-worked counterattack goal from a Villagers corner. The ball broke free, and Jack Appleyard raced towards goal. A good save from Jordan Douglas would keep Appleyard at bay but Stephens would tap in on the rebound.
The Villagers would find a winner on the 78th minute. A brilliant cross from Josh Whiteley on the right-hand side found Danny East who placed the ball into the goal to secure the three points and score his 20th league goal this season.
Ferriby boss Chris Bolder summed up his thoughts after the game, “Full credit to Glasshoughton, I thought they were outstanding. They came here with nothing to lose and worked exceptionally hard and made life difficult for us and we’ve had to really work at it and score three really good goals to beat them today. We came into this game on the back of two 4-0 victories and games in which we hadn’t conceded a shot on target. We’re slightly disappointed with the manner of the goals conceded but ultimately, it’s about building momentum now and working towards our main aim now which is consolidating second”.
