A MAJOR road route in and out of Beverley has been named as the worst for drivers ignoring speed limits. According to Safer Roads Humber more than 4,000 drivers every day ignore the 40mph speed limit on the dual carriageway stretch of the A164 between the Waitrose roundabout and Castle Hill.

Safer Roads Humber has released statistics collected by its speed cameras between 2019 and 2021 and say they show that, on average, 4,320 drivers each day fail to stick to the 40mph speed limit, which represents almost half of all motorists.

The average speed has been clocked at 45.6mph. The data, covering all the roads in the area, also showed there were 1,850 speed violations on average every day on Victoria Road in Beverley, which equated to 63.3 per cent of traffic being over the speed limit.
