Bishop Burton College has been made a Centre of Excellence for girls aged 16 to 18 by the Yorkshire Rugby Football Union; one of only 11 such centres of excellence in England. College Director of Rugby, Mike Umaga, told Beverley FM: “We look forward to welcoming these talented young female athletes. It shows not only the potential within Yorkshire itself but also how the women and girls’ game is developing and growing across the country.”

178 runners came under starter’s orders for the return of the Beverley Westwood Park Run at the weekend – the first time the event has been held since the start of the Covid pandemic. The resignation of Woodmansey parish councillor Nicholas Hart means a by-election is in the offing, but only if ten electors ask for one by writing to the Chief Executive of East Riding Council at County Hall, Beverley. The deadline for doing so is August 9. If no election is held the vacancy will be filled by by co-option.
