The Covid Vaccination Centre at Beverley Racecourse is to close at the end of July as local GPs pull-out of providing the service. The Beverley Primary Care Network, which coordinates the local vaccination effort, told us that they’ve served notice to the NHS to stop after completing outstanding second jabs. They said this is because local surgery staff are exhausted now that their normal workload has grown to exceed pre-pandemic levels. Officials added that the mood and moral is not good. Local people will have to use mass vaccination centres from August.

Meanwhile local health officials are keeping a close eye on rising Covid-19 cases across the country as the new Delta variant drives a potential third wave. Cases in East Yorkshire rose by more than 40% last week, but are still well below the national average. There were only a handful of cases in the Beverley area

East Riding grown apples and strawberries could be extinct within 25 years, farmers have warned. The problem is a biodiversity crisis affecting the Bee population. Local Arla Farmers have joined activists at Buglife to ask the public for help in a national campaign to be launched later this week. Organisers told Beverley FM that urgent action is needed to save our pollinators by planting pit-stops for bees filled with pollen bearing plants.
