Hull KR Capture Sue for 2023
Hull KR are delighted to announce the capture of Newcastle Knights’ prop, Sauaso “Jesse” Sue on a three-year deal until the end of 2025.
Having played ten years in the NRL, Sue is a vastly experienced forward able to play at prop, loose forward and second-row. The hard-running Samoan has also excelled on the international stage making fourteen appearances for his beloved Samoa.
Sue will have his eyes firmly set on this year’s World Cup as he looks to become the pacific country’s record appearance maker with three games needed to take the record.
The former Wests Tiger is returning to a happy hunting ground for 2023 after playing at Sewell Group Craven Park back in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, crashing over for a try in Samoa’s emphatic 38-4 win over Papua New Guinea.
A ten-year NRL veteran, the 30-year-old made his NRL debut for Wests Tigers in 2013 and has since gone on to make 169 NRL appearances and become renowned for his defensive work rate, devastating footwork and ability to hit the line hard.
Incoming Robins’ head coach Willie Peters was delighted to capture the versatile forward’s signature for 2023: “He’s a hungry footballer who’s ready to prove himself in the Super League.
“He’s ready to play his best football, he could have stayed in the NRL but it’s an exciting time to be a part of Hull KR. He and his family want to be a part of it.”
The Samoan forward is excited to get started with the Robins and has already earmarked the challenge of the Hull derby: “I’m looking over to moving over with the family, experiencing the Hull Derby, and taking on what Super League has to offer.”
Speaking on his new head coach, Willie Peters, Sue is looking forward to continuing his journey with the former halfback: “He’s a really good guy. It’s going to be great with him as a head coach, the brings a lot of energy. It’ll be good for me to work with him more in the coming years.
Sue reflected on his previous visit to Sewell Group Craven Park and is excited to play in front of the Red Army: “It’s been a long time, almost ten years but I still remember that game like it was yesterday.
“The fans were crazy and the whole atmosphere was unbelievable. They were really vocal and I’m really excited to taste that again for the next couple of years.”
The Samoan forward outlined what he’ll bring to the Robins pack on and off the field next season: “I’ll bring a bit of leg speed in the middle, strong defence and some aggression with energy to lift the boys up during games.
“I can’t wait to be building combinations in the pre-season, which will be big, and getting to know the fellas as well so we can feed off each other’s energy in games.”
Sue has his own personal goals and a vision for a successful Hull KR following his move to the northern hemisphere: “Winning a premiership would mean the world to me, the fans, and the team. That’s the biggest goal. For myself, playing consistent football and helping the boys along the way is important.”
