Hull City 3-2 Coventry City

Hull City maintained their 100% home record in the EFL Championship with a 3-2 victory over Coventry City.

Óscar Estupiñán netted his first hat-trick for the Tigers as they secured all three points at the MKM Stadium, despite Matty Godden netting a brace for the visitors.

Shota Arveladze made two changes to his starting XI from the one that faced West Bromwich Albion last time out. Summer signing Ryan Woods made his first start on his home debut, replacing the injured Ozan Tufan, while Vaughn Covil made his first league start for the club, replacing Randell Williams.

The Tigers opened the scoring on 11 minutes with the first clear-cut opportunity of the game. Good work down the left wing between Jacob Greaves and Callum Elder saw the latter whip the ball in at the back post for Lewie Coyle. The captain saw his drilled shot saved by Simon Moore, but Estupiñán was on hand to head the rebound in from close range.

Coventry did put the ball in the back of the net as Fankaty Dabo picked out the run of Godden, who rose highest to plant his header into the far corner. However, the forward saw his effort ruled out for offside.

The Sky Blues’ forward wasn’t going to be denied on the half-hour mark as the visitors received a penalty. Tobias Figueiredo was adjudged to have fouled Kasey Palmer with referee Oliver Langford having no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Godden stepped up and sent Matt Ingram the wrong way to bring the scores level.

Regan Slater looked to put the Tigers back in front, but his volleyed attempt was straight at Moore in the Coventry goal.

The Tigers retook the lead three minutes before half-time. An out-of-the-foot delivery by Coyle was spilled by Moore which allowed Estupiñán to bag his brace with a simple tap-in. Andy Cannon blasted one other the bar in first-half injury time as the Tigers had the advantage at half-time.
