Hull City 2-1 Norwich City

Hull City maintained their unbeaten record in the EFL Championship with a 2-1 victory over Norwich City.

A goal in each half from Columbian forward Óscar Estupiñán gave the Tigers all three points at the MKM Stadium, despite Marcelino Núñez netting a free-kick in the second half.

Shota Arveladze made six changes to the starting XI that faced Bradford City last time out. Callum Elder made his 100th start for the club in all competitions while captain Lewie Coyle made his 50th league start for the Tigers. There was also a welcome return from injury for goalkeeper Nathan Baxter, who was named on the substitutes bench.

Norwich had a succession of corners within the opening two minutes as Grant Hanley saw his free header held by Matt Ingram. Racing down the other end, Allahyar Sayyadmanesh tried to curl his shot into the far corner, but could only fire wide.

Ingram was far busier of the two goalkeepers in the opening exchanges as he denied Teemu Pukki one-on-one before the shot-stopper redeemed himself after originally giving the ball away, denying Núñez. The rebound from Pukki deflected wide.

On 24 minutes Ozan Tufan tried an audacious effort from distance, but his dipping effort narrowly went over the crossbar. Todd Cantwell sliced an attempt wide before the Tigers took the lead on the 43rd minute. A defensive mix-up for Norwich saw the loose ball fall to Estupiñán to smash the ball home from inside the six-yard area.

In injury time, Ingram was called into action to preserve the Tigers’ advantage heading into the half-time break as he acrobatically denied Pukki’s curling attempt.
