Hull City 0-3 Stoke City

Hull City suffered a 3-0 home defeat against Stoke City at the MKM Stadium.

A brace by Lewis Baker and finish by Ben Wilmot gave the Potters all three points in the EFL Championship.

Shota Arveladze made two changes to his starting XI from the one that faced Sheffield United last time out. Tyler Smith came in for the injured Benjamin Tetteh while Jean Michaël Seri started ahead of Ryan Woods, who was named on the bench.

The visitors made a late change to their team as goalkeeper Jack Bonham was injured in the warm-up. Josef Bursik started while Frank Fielding was named on the bench.

Before the game, both teams took part in a minute’s silence due to the sad passing of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II before taking part in the national anthem.

There were few chances within the opening minutes as Ozan Tufan tested Bursik from range, while Baker’s deflected free-kick was parried away by Matt Ingram. Jacob Brown was next to take aim, but his shot was blocked by Jacob Greaves.

The Potters opened the scoring on 25 minutes. Captain Baker saw his free-kick from 25-yards deflect off Greaves to find the bottom corner, with Ingram wrong-footed.

Regan Slater thought he managed to get the Tigers back on level terms just four minutes later as Seri’s smart corner picked out his fellow midfielder in space on the edge of Stoke’s penalty area. However, Slater’s curling attempt went narrowly wide of Bursik’s right-hand post.

Stoke’s Liam Delap and Will Smallbone looked to double the visitors’ advantage as Delap fired straight at Ingram before Smallbone’s drive deflected wide. From the resulting corner, a well-worked set-piece routine almost saw Aden Flint convert at the back post.

With a minute of normal time to go in the first time, Stoke City doubled their lead. A great free-kick delivery by Baker found Wilmot at the back post to bundle the ball home.
