Handsworth 2-4 North Ferriby

North Ferriby Fc defeated Handsworth 4-2 on Saturday. Goals from Jamie Forrester, Joel Shortland, Josh Whiteley, and Tom Corner saw Chris Bolder’s side re-establish their five-point lead at the top of the table.

Bolder made two changes from the win over Thackley. In came Tom Corner and Joel Shortland for Danny Clarke and Adam Bolder.

The Villagers got off to a less than perfect start. With only one minute on the clock, Handsworth’s top goal scorer Mitchell Dunne scored an individual effort to put his side ahead.

The Villagers rallied, and a long throw by Josh Dennett caught the hosts sleeping. Jamie Forrester received the ball and drove forward before finishing smartly.

Bolder would see his side take the lead only a few minutes after. Handsworth didn’t clear the ball enough and the ball fell to Joel Shortland, the midfielder controlled with his chest before unleashing a perfect volley past Handsworth goalkeeper Ben Townsend.

The hosts nearly levelled but a goalmouth scramble resulted in the ball going out for a goal kick.

The scores, however, be level again when Joe Parkin scored a second for the hosts.

The scores would be level at the break, it would be the Villagers who would find a third goal courtesy of Josh Whiteley. Danny Earl took on numerous Handsworth defenders but was eventually fouled in the area. Up stepped Josh Whiteley who fired his penalty low and hard past Townsend.

The hosts looked to find an equaliser but didn’t have any luck. Lewis Exall produced a good save to keep his side ahead.

In stoppage time, the Villagers would find a fourth to guarantee their victory. Josh Whiteley picked out Tom Corner to his right. Corner fired the ball over the on-rushing Townsend and into the goal.

North Ferriby boss Chris Bolder summed up his thoughts after the game, “super-proud of the lads, second half performances have been questioned at home but today, I thought we were absolutely outstanding in the second half, we defended exceptionally well, our work ethic or shape was tremendous. Credit to Handsworth, they are a great side, they play football in the right way and cause you problems”.
