Hall Road 0-1 Rainworth Miners
Hall Road Rangers suffered a disappointing defeat against Rainworth Miners Welfare on Tuesday night as they lost 0-1 at Haworth Park. The visitors saw an effort go over the bar in the 12th minute. In the 22nd minute, Rainworth took the lead through a Morgan Boyle header which looped over Rangers keeper Haydn Withill and nestled in the back of the net.
On the half hour mark, Rainworth threatened again with another shot that went over the bar. Meanwhile, there was a half chance for Rangers in the 37th minute when Craig Muirhead fired an effort over the bar.
It almost become 0-2 in the early stages of the second half as an effort from the visitors hit the crossbar. Lewis Andrew saw an effort go wide in the 61st minute. Hall Road’s only real opportunity arrived in the 77th minute in the form of a Chris Spinks shot which was tipped over the bar by Rainworth keeper Marcus Coombs.
Apart from that, Rangers failed to properly test the Rainworth keeper as they ended the game with no goals and no points.
Rangers joint boss Leon Sewell was far from impressed with his side’s performance.
“To be honest, I think disappointing is probably the nice word for that performance. To be truthful, it was embarrassing and totally not acceptable.
At the same point, I don’t want to take anything away from Rainworth. They’ve come to Hull on a Tuesday night with 11 players and it just wasn’t good enough.
They’ve defended for their lives, made it hard for us in all areas of the pitch and fair play to them. They’ve won 1st balls and 2nd balls.
When you actually look at the goal that we’ve conceded, totally embarrassing in itself. We’ve got to deal with it and it’s got to be better. That probably comes from us being a bit naïve.
From the performance on Saturday where we were on the front foot, sharp, creating chances, deliveries from set pieces and the general play was absolutely spot on, it was as if we were 11 random blokes off the estate tonight that have just put a blue and white kit on and had a kick about for 90 minutes.
To be fair, we had the majority of the possession but we didn’t do anything with the possession. We were too slow and were taking way too many touches. Our appreciation of the ball was appalling and the quality of the passing was appalling as well.
There’s a reason why we’re in 14th position. The lads have got to realise that if we’d have won tonight we’d have gone 10th as Worsbrough Bridge lost and so have Ollerton so that’s a massive kick in the teeth. Not just for me and the management team, but for the whole club.
It’s just embarrassing and an absolute shambles of a performance. That’s probably me being nice” Sewell said.
