An East Riding medical research team is to undertake a major £2.3 million project aimed at improving the treatment of people with blood cancers. Around 500 patients will take part in the study which aims to examine if blood tests can be used safely to identify serious fungal infections, reducing the use of antifungal drugs, and safeguarding their future use. The grant will also help develop local research capabilities in haematology and infection. Read the full story here

The Police and Crime Commissioner has spoken out about his concerns of the grooming of young people in our area to be exploited for sexual purposes. Jonathan Evison told Beverley FM that we have a responsibility to protect our young people and he is putting measures foreword in his Police and Crime plan to tackle violence against women and girls. He would welcome views from the public on the PCC website. He added that we must all be vigilant and report suspicions to ensure there is no place in our communities for young people to be exploited and abused. You can read the PCC’s full blog here

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is continuing its tough crack down on fly tippers with more successful prosecutions and fines of offenders this week. Officials told us that there’s no excuse for dumping waste on the street, highways or in laybys in East Yorkshire. Read more here
