LATEST annual Environmental Performance Assessments by the Environment Agency shows the performance of England’s nine water and sewerage companies has declined. In Yorkshire, Yorkshire Water received a 2 star rating, a decline from its 4 star rating last year, which it had achieved for the first time since 2014. It saw five serious pollution incidents during 2021, an increase of two from the previous year.
This latest assessment follows news earlier this week that Yorkshire Water has agreed to donate a total of £400,000 to Yorkshire Wildlife Trust after polluting two watercourses in separate incidents, following investigations by the Environment Agency. The incidents were at Holgate Beck in York and another in Wakefield.
POPULAR Beverley cafe The Tea Cosy, close to the Minster in Highgate has been put up for sale. Owner Gary Mason says he plans to retire after 34 years running the business. The 17th century, Grade II-listed building, which includes living accommodation on the second and third floors, is on the market for offers in the region of £465,000.
BEVERLEY actress Eleanor Tomlinson, star of Poldark, has married Coventry rugby union player Will Owen in a wedding in The Cotswolds. Eleanor revealed the news in a post on her Instagram page and has revealed details of her “dream” wedding dress in an interview with magazine Harper’s Bazaar. Eleanor’s post said: “When a Miss becomes a Mrs ♥️ I love you. The best weekend of our lives. The biggest thank you to all our family and friends”.
