FR: Selby Town 1-0 North Ferriby
North Ferriby FC began their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Selby. The Villagers played two different elevens in each half, as Chris Bolder ran rule of his side. A first-half goal from Selby frontman was the difference between the two sides.
North Ferriby controlled the first half and produced some chances of their own. First, good build-up play from the off gave Jake Martindale a chance to score but his effort was well saved by Jody Barford. Danny East fired a free kick over and Danny Earl showed a good turn of pace before he saw his effort saved by Jody Barford.
The game opening and only goal came halfway through the first half. Selby produced some good build-up play and Liam Flanagan slotted past Lewis Exall.
The Villagers second half side had chances of their own but still couldn’t find a way through. Jamie Forrester’s corner was met by Oli Donald who made contact with the ball which allows Tom Corner a chance. Corner tried to bundle the ball home but Selby were able to clear. New signing Lewis Stephens saw his headed effort go wide and Jody Barford produced a great save from close range to deny Oli Donald.
North Ferriby boss Chris Bolder had this to say after the game, “It’s great to see the fans back and it’s great to get back on the pitch again. There were flashes, as always with preseason, especially the early games, it is about minutes in the legs. Of course, you don’t want to lose, and we go out there to win every single game of football that we play. The positives today are we got 22 players 45 minutes and that’s the most pleasing thing for us. Training has gone exceptionally well but whatever you do in training, you can’t replicate the match practice that you get.
First half XI: Exall, Reading, Moment, Tilsley, Start, East, Kirk, Borman, Buttle, Earl, Martindale.
Second half XI: Douglas, Jurkstis, Dennett, Donald, Shepherd, Carew, Shortland, Forrester, Emerton, Stephens, Corner.
