FR: North Ferriby 0-1 Redcar

North Ferriby ended their pre-season in defeat as they fell 1-0 to Northern League side Redcar Athletic.

The players got valuable minutes and put in a valiant display with Rich Medcalf’s strong defensive performance the standout.

Lewis Exall was called upon early on as two Redcar forwards burst through the defence but the Ferriby shot-stopper did well to make a double save to deny a goal.

Jamie Forrester would have the best chance for Ferriby in the first ten minutes when he picked up the ball on the edge of the box before his curled effort was headed off the line.

A goal almost came for the visitors when a curling effort towards an open net was headed away by Niall Tilsley to keep it at 0-0.

The pressure in the first half would be entirely in the Villagers’ attacking third but a goal would evade them as Danny Earl was frustrated by the post after cheating down a fantastic pass from Danny Emerton in the best chance for the hosts of the half.

Ferriby would start the second half well but were undone in the 56th minute when a ball over the top was well taken down by the Redcar number 9 who slotted it into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Forrester should have equalised immediately when an Emerton cross was pinpoint towards the back post, it looked an open net but the Redcar keeper did fantastic to put it over for a corner.

Chris Bolders’ men would continue pressure in the second half with Robbie Start showing quality on the left-hand side with many driven crosses to the centre circle but nobody on the end to tuck them away.

Redcar’s number 9 almost doubled his tally when he rifled an effort towards substitute goalkeeper Lewis Hill’s near-post but it could only hit the side-netting.
