FR: Grimsby Borough 2-2 North Ferriby

North Ferriby FC played out a toughly contested game against Grimsby Borough and came away with a 2-2 draw. Chris Bolder’s side took a 2-0 lead over the NPL division side, but a Grimsby Borough fight back denied the Villagers their first victory of preseason.

The game’s opening goal came from Tom Corner. Rich Medcalf, who was playing at centre back, drove forward with the ball. Medcalf played a great ball out to the left-hand side and found Danny Buttle. Buttle then played a brilliant cross into the box and the ball was met by Tom Corner who put the ball past Higton in the Grimsby goal.

A good save from Lewis Hill to deny a Grimsby attacker ensured that the Villagers would go into the break ahead.

The second half began, and the Villagers came out looking for a second. Harvey Carew has a great chance to double the lead, after good play down the left-hand side involving Robbie Start and Danny Buttle. The young winger couldn’t direct his chance goal bound.

The Villagers were awarded a free kick in a good position. Jamie Forrester stepped up and delivered the ball into the box. The ball was headed back across the box and Rich Medcalf got down low to tap the ball past Higton.

The home side would get back into the game when a long ball went over the Ferriby defence. Lewis Bemrose beat the onrushing Lewis Hill to the ball and his initial effort was palmed on by Hill but went behind the Ferriby stopper and gave Bemrose a gaping goal to tap the ball into.

Chris Bolder made nine changes all at once and one of these substitutes Danny Earl went close when he hit a shot from a tight angle but was denied by Higton.

The hosts would be level when Joel Shepherd fouled the Grimsby winger as he cut into the box. Bemrose stepped up and sent Jordan Douglas the wrong way.

This is how the game would end. North Ferriby assistant manager Paul Robson shared his thoughts after the game, “we had to change things up through work commitments and injuries, but it was another good test for the lads. On the whole, we want to see a bit more consistency in our play, the patterns we are working on, but it’ll all come. The pleasing thing is game by game we are seeing more and more of the patterns of play that we want to see building up the pitch”.

North Ferriby: Hill (Douglas), Dennett (Reading), Medcalf (Moment), Tilsley, Start (Shepherd), Kirk (Borman) Shortland, Carew (Jurkstis) Forrester (Martindale), Buttle (Stephens), Corner (Earl).
