Flemingate Christmas Lights Switch On – 2022

FLEMINGATE TO LAUNCH CHRISTMAS WITH ACTION-PACKED EVENING OF ENTERTAINMENT

Thousands of people are expected to join in the fun at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on at Beverley’s Flemingate centre.

This year’s night of celebration is on Friday 18th November from 5pm, and will be packed with exciting entertainment, a Nordic tipi bar and breath-taking fireworks.

S Club Allstars, Tina Barrett and Bradley McIntosh, from 90’s sensation S Club 7 will be performing live on stage. S Club 7 were one of the most popular British pop groups of the late ’90s and early 2000s. They had four UK number-one singles and a UK number-one album. Their singles Reach, Bring It All Back, Never Had A Dream Come True, S Club Party and Don’t Stop Moving are all still floor- fillers today.

The event will also see the winner of Flemingate Future Star 2022 perform live on stage. Beverley FM, in partnership with Flemingate, launched the hunt for the next Future Star in September. The winner has been announced as Olivia Tworek, age 16. Olivia takes the crown from last year’s winner, Megan Wright who will also be back on stage.

Alex Dunn, Beverley FM breakfast show presenter, said: “We had so many fantastic entries. It really showed how much talent there is locally. The winner really deserves this. She will wow the audience with her amazing voice.”

Other highlights on the evening will include entertainment from ‘ Luke Does Bublé’, the UK’s premier award-winning & officially endorsed tribute artiste to Michael Bublé, who will be performing Bublé’s top hits and Christmas songs.

Singer and drag artist Marigold Addams will be appearing as Cher, following on from their performance on the ITV1 show ‘Starstruck’. Local band ‘Hats Off’, who are previous winners of the East Riding Schools’ Music Service Battle of the Bands Competition, will be opening the evening at 5pm.

Hosted by presenters Alex Dunn and Adam Smith from Beverley FM, the festive evening will also feature Christmas classics by All for One Choir and entertainment by the cast from Talegate Theatre’s ‘Beauty & the Beast’, who are in Panto at the Parkway Cinema theatre stage over the festive season.

Jo Bridgeman, Marketing and Events Manager for Flemingate, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be welcoming families and residents to enjoy a brilliant night of entertainment and festivities and, of course, the light switch-on to mark the start of Christmas at Flemingate.” “There will be a fabulous firework display at 6.45pm, which will be followed at 7pm by 90’s Pop Sensation S Club All Stars – a great way to mark the countdown to Christmas”.

Cosy Nordic ‘Christmas Tipi Flemingate’ is making a welcome return with its roaring fire pit, festive lighting, and cosy seating, and many of the shops are staying open for a spot of late-night shopping. Revellers can also enjoy food stalls and funfair rides.

The Flemingate Christmas event begins at 5pm and is due to end at 7.30pm. The lights switch-on is at 6.45pm, immediately followed by the seven-minute fireworks display. Father Christmas will also be making an appearance.

Drivers are being warned that part of Armstrong Way will be closed to traffic between 12noon and 10pm with diversions in place.

People coming to the event by car can use Flemingate’s 500-space car park for just £1 for three hours.
