Featured Programme – Dave Harper

I’m that daft lad from Driffield who presents the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hour every Thursday evening starting at 7pm. The show features all the major rock ‘n roll artists from the 1950’s & 60’s with one or two rarities thrown in for good measure. Dave Hutchins, the previous presenter of this show had built up a loyal and large following so I hope that I have continued to entertain Dave’s listeners and even helped to gain a few more. Thanks to the great new Beverley FM website and the introduction of Smart Speakers, I’ve been able to reach audiences that live beyond the stations’ radio signal and I’ve even had responses from as far a-field as Canada (they love their “Rocky ‘n Roll” out there!).

“So what’s so good about Rock ‘n Roll and why has it lasted so long?” I hear you cry. As mad as it sounds, I like the pure simplicity of it. Firstly, the records usually only last around 2 minutes long, so if you like one, they always leave you wanting more; on the other hand, if you don’t like one, then you don’t have to wait long before the next one that you like comes on! Then, there’s the variety, with acts ranging from teen idols such as Cliff Richard and Ricky Nelson, wild ones like Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, and also the vocal talents of The Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison. Not forgetting the King of Rock ‘n Roll (no, not Acker Bilk), Elvis Aaron Presley. Those acts were not only pioneers for their generation; they were an inspiration for future generations. I love playing them all. I hope they bring back happy memories for my more mature listeners and I hope that they impress any younger listeners who may not have heard them first time around. So don’t forget to tune in and rock around the clock every Thursday evening from 7pm to 8pm.
