Tex Hoy signs for FC
Hull FC are delighted to confirm the signing of NRL playmaker Tex Hoy for the 2023 Betfred Super League season!
The 22-year old has signed a two-year deal with the Black & Whites, with the club having the option to extend Hoy’s stay at the MKM Stadium by a further year.
Heading to East Yorkshire from NRL outfit Newcastle Knights, Hoy is another exciting addition to Hull’s spine next year which includes fellow new arrival Jake Trueman and last year’s Man of Steel nominee, Jake Connor.
Collectively, the trio have notched up 45 assists, 10 tries and 57 tackle breaks in first-grade fixtures between them.
In addition, Hoy has added a further 8 assists, 1 try and a huge 27 tackle busts in eight reserve grade matches, in a team coached by former Hull FC and Australia legend Mark O’Meley.
The Black & Whites have finally landed their man after a lengthy battle for his signature with several NRL clubs, with the young playmaker keen to develop his career in Super League.
Hoy, who is also a confident goal-kicker, can play in the halves and at full-back, providing more variation for head coach Brett Hodgson in his spine selection next season – with 22-year old eager to get to work with the former Super League Man of Steel.
The South Newcastle Lions junior broke onto the scene with the Knights in 2020 as one of the NRL’s most prominent rising stars, going on to make 23 senior appearances over the last couple of seasons for Adam O’Brien’s side.
Blessed with pace, strength and known for a crafty skillset with ball in hand, the former New South Wales U20s junior has been unlucky not to feature more regularly in the NRL, having patiently learnt his trade underneath some of the NRL’s most recognisable pivots like Kalyn Ponga and Anthony Milford.
The son of Australian surfing legend Matt Hoy, Tex will be aiming to make a splash when he arrives at the club later this year, and is the latest player to join a growing band of young and promising talent at the Black and Whites.
Hoy (22) and Trueman (23), will line up alongside the likes of Jordan Lane, Darnell McIntosh, Joe Lovodua, Jack Brown, Connor Wynne, Ben McNamara and a host of Rising Stars, who are all under the age of 25.
Speaking in his first interview with hullfc.com, Hoy said: “I’m really excited! Obviously, it’s a big move for me to be coming over from Australia, but it was a decision I made purely down to how excited I was to come,” he said.
“It’s a huge opportunity for me to play some footy, whilst being able to grow as a player and a person.
“I’ve heard that Hull is a big rugby league city and I know that there are two teams that hate each other there.
“Mark O’Meley coaches me at NSW Cup level and as soon as he found out about Hull’s interest, he gave me a nudge and told me how much I would enjoy it.
Hull FC head coach, Brett Hodgson, said: “Tex is a natural footballer, with the ability to create opportunities with his brilliant footwork and passing game.
“He’s young and hungry to show that he can play consistently at this level; we’re really excited to have him on board for next season.
“Tex is a real creator off the back of what other people can do; he has that versatility being able to play in the halves or at full-back, but in space, he is able to play a similar way to that of Jake Connor, where he can hit that right pass at the right time, as well as having a really strong running game with speed too.
“I’m excited to see what he can contribute in our spine next season alongside some excellent players, and we should see some really exciting combinations in our team next season as we continue to build and shape our squad.”
