The newly transformed Champney Treasure House on Monday 9 December
Champney Treasure House, Champney Rd, Beverley, HU17 8HE
Champney Treasure House, the newly renovated cultural venue in Beverley, opens its doors to the public on Tuesday , 10 December after an essential period or renovation. Champney Treasure House has been renamed in honour of John Edward Champney, a local businessman who in the early 20th century made several significant donations to the original Beverley Public Library and Art Gallery. The renovated building will become a centre for learning and discovery, housing the many services provided and celebrating the diverse and vibrant cultural offering of the historic venue.
About the 2024 transformation
The £3.3 million scheme aimed to create a welcoming cultural destination for the East Riding, as well as the modernisation of some services and facilities. The transformation saw the relocation of more cultural services from around Beverley into the improved space, enhancing the customer experience and ensuring best value for money. Some of these changes included a new customer service centre and enhanced library, and a new location within the building for the reference library. The council’s registration services relocated there from Walkergate House. There is a new Changing Places facility, and the Champney Gardens were landscaped.
The gardens
Open to the public and available for wedding parties to take photos during their special day, the landscaped gardens are a place for peace and rest for all.
Lynsey Helme and Nathan Makey from Hornsea said, “We are really excited to be one of the first couples to be married at the Champney Treasure House. It will be a story we can tell our children, and they can tell their children. Our wedding will become part of the history of the building”
