D-Day at Woodmansey – June 6 2024

Join us at the Woodmansey Parish Council D-Day Beacon Lighting event to commemorate and honour the heroes of World War II.

Thursday June 6: 7.30pm to 8.00pm: Events and refreshments in Woodmansey Village Hall. 8.05pm: Kerri Harold – Woodmansey PC Chairman – Message of thanks from the Parish Council; 8.15pm: Reading from Bishop David from St Peter’s Church; 8.50pm: Guests assemble outside for Beacon Lighting ceremony (guests stay inside in the event of bad weather); 9.00pm: Beacon is lit; 9.15pm: The International Tribute – Kerri Harold; 2 mins silence; lowering of Union Jack flag; end of formal proceedings / guests depart.

More events are also being held in Woodmansey on the weekend of the anniversary week:

Saturday June 8 from 11am: 1940s Themed Day at the Warton Arms – Bouncy Castle; real WW2 equipment; vintage dress-up; music of the time; free drinks for veterans; and 20 per cent off food if pre-booked.

Sunday June 9: 10.30am – Commemorations to D-Day at St Peter’s Church, Woodmansey’s Sunday Service.

Hosted by the Woodmansey D-Day Commemorations Committee in partnership with The Warton Arms; Woodmansey Parish Council; St Peter’s Church and Hull Sea Cadets.

Raising money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity; and Hull4Heroes.
