Enjoying Our Local Woodlands

For the last few weeks we’ve been broadcasting a series called Your Forest.

It’s a unique project that’s been put together for Beverley FM by an outdoor arts organisation called Wild Rumpus.

We are part of a network of 11 other radio stations across the country that have been brought together for this special project looking at URBAN forests, woodlands and parks that exist in and around our towns and cities.

Living through a pandemic has certainly shown us that access to green spaces, trees and nature are so important – especially if we live in built-up areas. You can listen to the episodes here but, as you may have heard, a special sound map has been created alongside the Your Forest series and we need YOUR help to add woodland recordings for our area.  It’s really easy to do and all explained on the Wild Rumpus website.

What’s your favourite local tree-lined park, wood or closest forest like?  What do you love about it? Why do you go there? We want to know!

Go to your favourite spot – or discover a new one – and use your phone to record a minute of the sounds you hear. Take a photo and then send them over.  Log onto www.wildrumpus.org.uk/yourforest, or find the map via the Wild Rumpus homepage. There you’ll also be able to listen to the sounds others have recorded in your area, as well as across the country.
