Crosfields 52-6 Beverley
This was always going to be a huge ask for Beverley setting off for Warrington at around 3 o’clock on a Wednesday for the game with just 1 substitute. The sport was however demonstrated in a good light when they were thanked for their efforts by the opposition’s secretary and were indeed applauded out of the clubhouse when departing home.
The visitors despite being light on numbers did at least make the home side work hard for their tries. Most them out wide resulting from enterprising handling. Beverley did concede penalties when in possession of the ball on a couple of occasions which added to their difficulties.
The opening 32 minutes did see Taylor Boyne, Luke Walker, Ben Steele and Jack Fox cross for tries. There was just the one conversion from Jack Lewis. The 36th minute did see Joe Rose reply with a try for the visitors. He leaped up to take Connor Rose’s cross-field kick and touch down. Connor Rose converted.
Right on the stroke of half-time Ben Steele crossed to put the home side 22-6 up as the 2 sides turned around for the second period.
The second half saw 5 further tries by John Whittaker (2), Jack Lewis (2) and Taylor Boyne. Jack Lewis found his kicking boots in the second period and converted all of them.
There were many creditable performances for Beverley. Not least Connor Rose who took the man of the match award from the full back position. Set completion was the key to containing their opponents and the hard yards done particularly by Alex Nuttall, Jack Howdle, Sam Roe, Ellis Dickinson and Josh Pooley contributed much to that.
