City extend Greaves’ contract & sign Woods

Hull City are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Ryan Woods on a three-year deal from fellow Championship outfit Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old, whose deal includes a club option of a further year, is vastly experienced at this level having made just under 250 appearances in the second tier during spells at Brentford, Stoke City, Millwall and the Blues.

After beginning his career at Shrewsbury Town, Woods made the step up to the Championship in 2015 as he signed a three-year deal at Brentford. He made over 120 appearances for the Bees, scoring three of his four career goals during his time at Griffin Park.

The versatile midfielder left Brentford to join Stoke in 2018, initially on loan, with the intention of making the move permanent. However, after making a good start under the management of Gary Rowett, Woods fell out of favour under Michael O’Neill.

After only making 12 appearances in all competitions for the Potters at the start of 2019/20, Woods left the bet365 Stadium to reunite with former boss Rowett at Millwall.

He made the move to the capital on loan for the remainder of the season, making 18 appearances as the Lions narrowly missed out on the play-offs. He joined on loan again the following season, making another 46 appearances.

Woods made a permanent move away from Stoke this time last year to join Birmingham. He made 30 appearances for Blues in 2021/22, and started their opening two games of this season against Luton Town and Huddersfield Town.

Hull City are delighted to announce that defender Jacob Greaves has penned a new long-term contract with the club.

Penning a new four-year deal, with the club holding the option of an extra year, the 21-year-old will continue his long association with his boyhood club till at least June 2026.

Son of former Tiger Mark Greaves, Jacob progressed through the club’s academy system starting at eight years old. Signing his first professional contract in April 2019, the former Under-18s captain had a successful loan at League Two with Cheltenham Town before making his senior Tigers’ debut against Leicester City Under-21s in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Featuring 41 times in his debut campaign, Greaves helped the Tigers win the League One title as he was named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

He made the step up last season to the Championship with relative ease and featured in every minute of the Tigers’ 46 league matches. His performances helped guide the team to Championship safety and earned him the club’s Young Player of the Award for a second successive season.

Appearing in all five of the Tigers’ matches this season, the 21-year-old was named vice-captain ahead of the 2022/23 season.
