Beverley Athletics Club: 22nd November 2022

It’s been another busy month for Club members as they head towards the end of a successful 2022 and look forward to the challenges of 2023. With so many choices of events, there is something for everyone and this past month has seen Beverley athletes continue to take on many challenges.

Whether taking on the scenic Derwentwater 10 in the Lake District, the Guy Fawkes 10 in Ripley or the more local Killham multi-terrain 10kms or the Deepdale Dash 10kms in Barton upon Humber, there was an event for everyone. Tom Skinner completed the Hardmoors Goathland half marathon, 16 miles with over 2000 feet of ascent, finishing 10th overall. In addition this month, there was a somewhat international flavour with Jo Rowland finishing the Valencia half marathon in 2:15:01, Lucas Meagor finishing the Qatar 10kms in 56:38, and Milas Ramos completing the Athens 10kms in 1:03:58. Still further afield, and becoming the furthest travelled runner this month, Jody Horth took a bite out of the Big Apple, completing the iconic New York City marathon in 4:04:22.

The second race of the East Yorkshire Cross Country League took place in October at Welton when 78 runners donned the Club colours, where in muddy conditions, the men’s and women’s teams both finished in second place. The next event is in December and takes place at Bishop Wilton. The Club held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 19th October, at Beverley Cricket Club. Those attending were able to enjoy the meeting as well as food and refreshments and reflect on the past year as well as discuss the way forward for 2023.

The annual Beaver Trail run took place on Sunday 20th November where runners, walkers and friends enjoyed this popular local trail. This popular local route was founded by members of Beverley AC in November 1998 and since then the club has celebrated the route with an annual event by inviting anyone to run or walk their choice of 5, 10, 13 or 15.2 miles route, finishing at Beverley Leisure Centre for soup and rolls at Beverley Leisure Centre.

Wednesday 4th December will see Father Christmas get festive fit by taking part in the Club’s annual Santa Run, accompanying Club members as they enjoy a socially festive run around Beverley before enjoying festive refreshments back at Beverley Cricket Club. The running Santas will also be fundraising for Dove House Hospice, the Club’s nominated charity for 2022.

And finally, some important dates for your diaries. Beverley’s iconic 10kms race takes place on Sunday 14th May 2023 and details of the event and registration will be circulated in the New Year, whilst Walkington 10 km will take place on Friday 14th July 2023. The Club is also hoping to replicate its’ successful Couch25k programme starting in January 2023 and completing in May. This popular running programme takes people from being non-runners to completing their first 5 km event in a few months of training. Details will be circulated in due course.

New members, whatever your age and fitness level, are always welcome and further details about the membership and what the Club has to offer to its members can be found on the Club’s website: www.beverleyathleticclub.co.uk.

On behalf of the Club’s Committee and its members, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!
