Beverley AC – 16th April
Never have Beverley AC members been so proud to wear the blue and yellow colours of the Club as during the Wednesday night Club run on Wednesday 23 March for the Run for Ukraine! Runners from Barton and District AC, who also run in blue and yellow, joined us along with a group from West Hull Ladies for the run, as a mark of solidarity for our Ukrainian friends. Approximately 120 people dressed in their club colours and enjoyed run routes around Beverley of between 3 and 7 miles. Through the generous donations of everyone, in providing raffle prizes and a wonderful spread of buffet food, a really lovely evening was enjoyed by all and raised £1002.82 for the Disasters Emergency Committee. Our thanks to all who came and supported, with a special thank you to Barton and District AC for topping up the donation pot to tip it over the £1000 mark! A special mention and thanks must go to Club member, Andy Johnson, who came up with the idea, organised the raffle and planned the run routes.
The Juniors have also been training hard and doing themselves and the whole club proud! A small group of juniors attended the Humber Open Series Winter Warm Up meeting on the track at Grimsby on Sunday 3rd April, with some races run over unusual distances just to get the legs turning over for the upcoming track season, with everyone producing some great performances! Special congratulations to the podium finishers – Freddie (U11B 2nd 70m and 1st 500m, 1st howler throw), Harriet (U15G 2nd 80m), Corey (U17B 2nd 80m and 150m.
As ever, the Club’s calendar has been full, with members taking part in several events, both locally and further afield. The Hornsea Third marathon saw many members take part in this popular local race, whilst across the bridge, Susan McIntyre, Helen Ryan and Jan Stott took part in the Normanby Hall Adventure Trail race. Manchester marathon was the challenge for 12 of our members. A special mention and congratulations to Emma Hibbs, Jack Kane, William Pike, Paul Duxbury and Ben Cowden for whom the race was their marathon debut and to Lucy Stamford, Valeriya Marshall, Emma Hibbs and Sam Allen who all achieved London Marathon qualifying times for their age categories! Meanwhile, Rome was the marathon of choice for Lucas Meagor.
A half marathon was the distance of choice for Lorraine Clarke at the Roche Abbey half, Carol Clarke at the Kew Gardens half, Sheffield half for Matt Edey and Jessica Hobson, and Nicola Riley at the Canal Canter half, whilst over in Leamington Spa, the Regency 10kms was the race of choice for Kay Farrow.
The Heartbeat Hobble, a 7-mile trail race with 700 feet of ascent in the North York Moors saw some great finishing times from Dean Field, Andy Johnson, Charlotte Sherman and Richard Parkin, with Richard Parkin using this as a warm-up for the Woldsman 50 mile the following week. Jo Rowland completed the Monsal Trail half whilst Sarah Anderson chose the stunning Lakeland Trails Hawkshead 16 for her trails challenge!
Some great results and many congratulations everyone! We are proud of you all!
Events coming up in the calendar include the Wolds Way Relay, on Sunday 29th May, which this year will be run from Filey to Hessle. This has become a popular annual relay event between local running clubs, taking in the Wolds Way, with currently 10 teams of 10 runners entered, all of whom are hoping for perfect running conditions on the day!
In addition, as the Champagne League and the East Hull Harriers Summer League get underway, there are plenty more opportunities for local friendly rivalry with runners from other clubs.
We are delighted to announce that the Pittaway Beverley 10kms taking place on Sunday 8th May 2022 is now full with places for the B&A Scaffolding Fun Run still available. The entry link can be found on the Club’s website page. We are delighted these popular events continue to be enthusiastically supported by local sponsors, Pittaway and B&A Scaffolding and our event HQ hosts, East Riding College.
Entries are now open for the Specsavers Walkington 10kms and fun run on Friday 8th July. Further details and the entry link can be found on the Club’s website.
