East Riding of Yorkshire Micro Providers Scheme

It has been identified that there is unmet need in providing home care and day services particularly in rural and coastal geographies. While many older people require regulated care from a CQC registered carer, many residents require support with basic needs, such as shopping, cleaning, cooking, transport, access to social activity, dog walking.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council wants to provide an agile response to meet the needs of local people who require support in their own homes by growing and supporting micro care providers who are skilled, trained and qualified to provide the help needed.

What are Micro-Providers?

Micro providers are small businesses that operate typically with less than 5 employees providing costed services to residents. These services will be, but not limited to home maintenance, cleaning, gardening, companionship, dog walking, shopping, meal preparation and personal care. The micro providers will offer costed services to residents who require support in their own homes.

What is the Freedom Providers Scheme?

To help plug the current gap in services, the Freedom Providers scheme delivered by Yorkshire In Business, gives training and employment opportunities to those that want to set up as a micro provider as well as provide care and support to residents in their own homes. The support provided will initially be non-regulated, and the scheme will support and ensure the providers are appropriately set up to provide these services. The scheme will support the development of micro providers by providing specialist care advice with mentoring, training, business advice and peer support.
