ONE OF East Yorkshire’s most familiar landmarks, Skidby Mill, will reopen on Saturday – but still without its sails. The mill has been closed since the spring after a member of staff left, but the mill’s owner, East Riding Council, has now recruited.

From September 24 the mill will open every weekend from 10-12.30pm and 1-5pm. However the mill is still without its four sails, two years after they were taken down and sent away for restoration. A spokesman said they were still waiting for a date from the millwrights to put them back.

EAST RIDING Council is inviting organisations to a meeting to prepare for the deepening of the cost of living crisis in the coming months. Offices have recommended setting up a working group made up of representatives from across the council’s services and outside groups to tackle the worst effects of rising inflation.

It’s understood officers could also look at whether people qualify for discretionary council tax discounts, depending on their income, or help with one-off emergency expenses.

THE NEW Bishop of Hull, the Rt Rev Dr Eleanor Sanderson, will begin her Ministry in a Service of Commissioning and Welcome in Hull Minster tonight, at which the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, will preside.
