Women and girls to learn from England rugby union stalwart
Beverley Rugby Union Football Club, which only launched its women’s and girls’ section at the beginning of this year, is to step up recruitment by hosting an “Inner Warrior” training camp.
Beverley RUFC will welcome England stalwart Tamara Taylor to the session on Monday 15th May, which is part of a nationwide development programme led by England Rugby.
Rising numbers of women and girls from across East Yorkshire have been attending training sessions at Beverley RUFC’s home ground at Beaver Park, Norwood, Beverley, since they were introduced in January.
Emma Bryans, one of the organisers, said the link with England Rugby and the visit by Tamara Taylor – who has played more than 100 time for her country – will help the club attract more players across all age groups.
She said: “Beverley had never had a women’s or girls’ team at the club until we launched this section in January. Numbers have been growing steadily and the Inner Warrior training camp is a great opportunity to build on that.
“The ‘Meet Your Inner Warrior’ campaign was launched by the RFU to encourage more women and girls to take up contact rugby and to help them show they are just as strong as the men.
“At our session on 15th May, Tamara will help us provide a friendly introduction to the basics of rugby – passing, kicking and tackling, coupled with enjoyable fitness routines – helping you step out of your comfort zone and unearth your Inner Warrior. We also welcome everyone to attend our regular Monday evening training sessions.”
- The Inner Warrior event will take place at the club from 6.30pm until 8.30pm on Monday 15 May. People interested in taking part should contact Emma on 07933 512021 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
