Wigan Warriors 16-14 Hull FC

Hull FC lost their unbeaten record for the start of the 2021 season in a tight and feisty affair to Wigan Warriors, 16-14. Hastings put the hosts ahead early on before FC pulled themselves back into the game through a Swift try. Hull were down to 12 men due to a Jake Connor sin binning when the Warriors retook the lead before the half time hooter. Both sides scored a try a piece in the second half, Fonua first for Hull before Bibby levelled it for Wigan. Hardaker kicked the winning penalty. Despite the drama of an intense match up the main talking point came in the 34th minute when Andre Savelio the Hull FC forward reported an alleged racist remark made by a Warriors player. The allegation came on the same day as the the RFL and the leading lights of the Super League announced they would be joining the boycott of social media over the weekend in an attempt to tackle online abuse and discrimination.*

*Tony Clubb has since been suspended by Wigan Warriors and a joint statement by both Hull FC and Wigan Warriors has been issued.
