Why Minster is turning purple
Beverley Minster is to be turned purple again next Monday (November 13) as part of a nationwide initiative to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and each year there is a campaign to light up landmark buildings as a way of drawing attention to the disease. Locally, the initiative is the work of Holly Raper, who lights up the Minster in memory of her grandfather, who passed away from pancreatic cancer five years ago. And to kickstart the month, the Monk’s Walk pub in Highgate was turned purple last Wednesday in memory of its popular landlord Neil Pickford, who died from the disease recently.
