Weekend Preview – 9th July 2021

On the local sporting scene this weekend, we provisionally have three rugby league games, Driffield Town CC have three fixtures, whilst North Ferriby are back in pre-season action.

Beverley ARLFC are due to play Skirlaugh this weekend. The Blue and Gold’s will be without several first-choice players due to a mixture of injury, illness and a stag do. In recent weeks it has been a stop-start with fixtures for Tony Spence’s men, but last time out they suffered their heaviest defeat of the season away at Bradford Dudley Hill and will hope for better this time.

Hull Kingston Rovers have had their fixture on Sunday moved to a 1.30 pm kick-off due to the Euro 2020 final involving England. The Robins have been without a game in almost a month due to various Covid related issues both in the Robins camp and oppositions. Tony Smith could potentially name his strongest side based on the players available in the 21-man squad. The issues within rugby league at the moment no side is able to build any momentum into fixtures.

Hull FC have named an 18-man squad ahead of the game against Leigh. The last time the two sides met the Black and Whites ran riot scoring a massive 64 points. Despite several key absentees, Brett Hodgson has named a strong side. Hodgson and several members of staff have been told to self-isolate which has thrown the game into some doubt.

Driffield Town CC have three fixtures in three days. The Saturday fixture is a league game against the struggling Harrogate CC. Sunday is a trip to Whitley Hall for the quarter-finals of the Viking Cup, Driffield has progressed well despite absentees in the squad. Finally, Monday they host Scarborough CC in the YPLN T20 Blast-Quarter Final.

North Ferriby host Pickering Town in their first home friendly of the pre-season. Ferriby will have some first-teamers missing for this fixture and some trialists are expected to feature as well.

And finally, Hull City have released a statement following a reported “transfer embargo” in the local press. Click here for the club statement.
