Week Review & Weekend Preview – 2nd July 2021

The way things are currently going we may be without a single game throughout the weekend. Postponements and weather look like they will stop play for much of East Yorkshire’s sporting sides.

Last week Hull Kingston Rovers announced the postponement of the fixtures for this weekend due to Covid related issues. This included the game against Hull FC. The Black and White were due to play Salford Red Devils on Monday, however, this game has also been suspended due to Covid-19 protocols. This is on the part of the visiting side. Beverley ARLFC were due to play against Hull Dockers this weekend but again this fixture has been postponed and the Blue and Golds will have to wait another week in the hope to return to winning ways.
Some good news has come from Rugby League in the area this week. Matt Parcell the influential hooker has signed a one-year contract extension with Hull KR. Initially joining on a loan deal in 2019 the Australian will be staying at Craven Park until the end of the 2022 season.

Beverley Town CC has been in some fine form with a great victory over Welton last weekend. This week they travel to Whitkirk who have won 4 from their last 4, in what should be an entertaining fixture. Driffield Town CC travel to York Acomb who only have one win in five. Driffield has won three from three even without influential players.

Martin Samuelsen has left Hull City for his native Norway. The midfielder joins FK Haugesund on an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old spent the end of last season out on loan, having only played 18 games since joining the Tigers from West Ham in January 2020.

And finally, North Ferriby will take part in this year’s FA Cup. The Villagers will be one of 729 teams in this year’s historic tournament, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
