BEVERLEY charity Jacob’s Well has launched an appeal for humanitarian and medical aid to aid victims of the major earthquake that has caused such devastation in Turkey and Syria. Charity CEO John Beynon told us: “Jacob’s Well has been sending trucks of humanitarian and medical aid into this war-torn nation for years, in partnership with ‘Samara’s Aid’, a Christian organisation that runs medical centres and poverty relief projects in various cities across Syria.”
He continued: “Financial support is needed urgently. Our partner has teams already on the ground in the region. Their medical centre is packed to overflowing with those who have been injured in the quake desperately needing treatment. It is not yet clear what will happen to all these thousands of people who have lost their homes in the middle of a cold winter, except that they need our urgent support.
He said donations can be made through internet banking, with details on the jacobswellappeal.org website or by dropping off cash at the charity’s shop or offices.
BEVERLEY’S Saturday Market will be the start point for a major road rally later this month, with 140 crews, including local drivers, arriving to take part in the 45-mile event. Organised by the Beverley and District Motor Club, the Reed Group East Riding Stages Rally will start from Saturday Market on Sunday February 26.
A Fanzone area will be created in the Market Square with a giant display screen showing live action from the competition stages throughout the day. There will also be an array of rally simulators and 3D Virtual reality experiences for people to try. The event will see rally cars lined up between 8am and 9am and then a steady stream of cars will pass though the FanZone throughout the day, with the winners receiving their awards at approximately 5pm.
