Residents will need to display a pass when using Beverley’s household waste and recycling site in Weel Road or any of the other nine sites in the East Riding, following a decision by East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The new ruling comes into force on October 1, but the council stresses all households will receive a pass free of charge through the post before then. A spokesman told Beverley FM the passes were being introduced to ensure the sites are used only by East Riding residents, which they hope will also reduce queueing at some sites. The RSPCA has launched a new campaign to “Cancel Out Cruelty” as new figures show there were 1,227 reports of deliberate cruelty to animals in East Yorkshire over the past five years. A spokesman told Beverley FM: “We urge anyone who wants to report animal cruelty to us to call our hotline on 0300 1234 999.”

And finally, HMRC is reminding thousands of East Riding residents in receipt of tax credits that they only have until the end of the month to renew their claims before this year’s deadline on July 31. Government officials told Beverley FM that they know how important tax credits are to those who qualify so they’ve made it quicker and easier to renew claims online.
