DUTCH RIDER Olav Kooij became only the second in modern Tour of Britain history to claim three-consecutive stage victories after completing his hat-trick in Beverley yesterday.

He was run closer than at any other point to date in the race, but held off fast finishes from a number of riders, including Britain’s Ethan Vernon to cross the finish line near the racecourse.

The leading riders put in their sprints to end the stage almost 15 minutes earlier than the predicted finish time, with large crowds cheering them on.

Olav’s winning time to complete the 154.7km course, from Goole, was 3 hours 51.02 minutes.

A NEW outdoor gym and fitness facility – the first of its kind in the north of England – is coming soon to East Riding Leisure at Beverley. The Mill will be a multi-functional space for East Riding Leisure members and the wider community, including clubs and organisations, suitable for all ages and abilities.

Work will start this month and will be completed by the winter. The site will be for use all-year-round and part of the outdoor gym will be under a canopy. Equipment will include squat racks, pull up bars, and rigging for accessories, which will include boxing bags, battle ropes, bars/weights, slam balls, dog sleds, kettlebells, and plyo boxes.

AN ANLABY man has been prosecuted for littering after CCTV cameras caught him dumping a bag of fast food rubbish out of his car window. Ellis Anthony Gibbs of The Avenue, was filmed dropping a large McDonald’s bag from his car in the car park of the Haltemprice Leisure Centre and driving off. He was fined £106 and was ordered to pay costs of £100 and a victim surcharge of £43 by Beverley Magistrates.
