East Riding Council has begun consultations on the trial pedestrianisation scheme which has been in place in Saturday Market, Beverley, since May. The area between The Grapes and The King’s Head has been closed to all vehicles, except cyclists, since then, following strong support for the scheme from local businesses. The council is now seeking feedback on the first few months of the trial. Councillor Jane Evison told Beverley FM: “This is a chance for everyone to have their say. The survey will be open to the public until November 5 so I would encourage business owners, residents and visitors to get involved.”

And Liberal Democrat councillors on East Riding Council were today calling for a 20mph speed limit to be introduced on the county’s residential roads on safety grounds. In a resolution being moved at a meeting of the full council, they urged a “20 Should Be Plenty” policy, except on main roads where, they say, speed limits, if higher, must be both safe and appropriate
