A 31-YEAR-OLD man who targeted lone women shoppers in supermarkets across Hull and the East Riding, including Beverley, the majority of whom were the elderly and vulnerable, has been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to 37 separate offences involving theft and the fraudulent use of bank cards.

Hull Crown Court heard that Marin Nistor, of Hardy Street, Hull, stole purses from elderly shoppers bags. Det-Con Neil White described Nister as a prolific thief and said his crimes not only had a financial impact on victims but an emotional one too, as personal items and photos of loved ones were thrown away.

BEVERLEY will host its first-ever Pride event this year at Beaver Park, home of Beverley Rugby Union Club, on August 5. “We take pride in our community values and we embrace diversity and change. Beverley Pride will not only enhance all of those elements but it will also be a safe space for everyone in the town to have fun, celebrate the power of love and make Beverley more LGBTQ+ inclusive,” the club announced on its website.

BEVERLEY’S Jacob’s Well charity is today sending £9,000 of medical aid to Ukraine; the 28th aid shipment since the invasion by Russia began. The charity has also pledged to continue sending aid to Africa. “We have one ready to go to Zimbabwe and another going next week to Congo Brazzaville. These now cost us £10,000 to buy and ship,” office manager Bridgit Conroy told us.

To help replenish exhausted coffers, Jacob’s Well will be holding a charity sale this Saturday in the entrance to Toll Gavel Church.
