PEOPLE going to vote in tomorrow’s council elections are being reminded to take an accepted form of photo ID before they are issued with a ballot paper. A poll card is not needed, but new regulations introduced under the Government’s Elections Act, means anyone who does not have an acceptable form of photo ID or can produce a voter authority certificate will not be issued with a ballot paper.
Approved forms of photo ID can include: A passport or photo ID driving licence, an older person’s bus pass or a disabled person’s bus pass or blue badge. The photo ID does not have to be valid, expired ID can be used as long as the photograph still bears a strong resemblance to the person presenting it.
The count for East Riding Council and parish councils will not begin until Friday morning and Beverley FM’s election team will be on air throughout the day bringing you the results as they happen.
OKTOBERFEST arrives in Beverley for the first time, with Beverley Racecourse being transformed for the traditional Bavarian bash. A spokesperson told us: “Top up your stein and step inside the huge Bier tent and prepare to be entertained.”
Organised by Bavarian Events Ltd, it will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 20 and 21. The event website promises: “From traditional German folk music to ‘Oompop’ from our internationally renowned bands, expect foot stomping, dancing and hearty singing galore,” plus an outdoor food court.
