Guide Dogs is appealing for dog-lovers to sign up as Puppy Raisers and join its team of volunteers in Beverley and the surrounding area. Being a Puppy Raiser means being responsible for caring for the basic needs of a Guide Dogs puppy in your home for 12 – 16 months. Linda Conway, Volunteering Coordinator at Guide Dogs, told Beverley FM: “Being a Puppy Raiser is such a rewarding role – seeing a puppy develop into a potential guide dog, who will transform the life of someone with a visual impairment.” [More In formation here]

Humberside Police have renewed warnings for people to be on their guard against doorstep scams and burglaries following two incidents in the East Riding in recent days. In both cases a man was reported to have cold-called to discuss repairs to their drives or gardens.  After the caller left, the elderly homeowners found that money had been taken from within the home.

And finally, East Riding Libraries has announced the return of its literature festival. The Festival of Words begins on Friday, October 15 with Olympic composer, Luke Carver Goss, and celebrated Yorkshire poet, broadcaster and performer, Ian MacMillan, who will be hosting a writing workshop.[Full details and ticket information here]
